Math Workshop:
We learned a very important word this week! It is called Growth Mindset! It means that we can change our thinking to show that we can ALL be fabulous math students! For example, instead of saying "I make too many mistakes", we would say "Let's try again!" or "What's another strategy I can try?"
Next week we will begin a week of imath - Inspirational Math- designed to get us thinking and learning as mathematicians. First we'll learn how our brains grow when we make mistakes!
Can You Save Fred?
We did a cooperative group activity that involved attempting to put a gummy life saver around a gummy worm! (The story is that Fred the worm was in a boat that capsized. We needed to save him, by getting him into the life preserver!) Students definitely learned the importance of working together!!
Wrinkled Heart " Before you speak, think and be smart. It's hard to fix a wrinkled heart!"
We are trying to build a positive attitude in our classroom by stressing the importance of using kind words with each other. We passed a big paper heart around the room and talked about phrases that would be unkind. After each unkind phrase, we wrinkled the heart. Then, we passed the heart around again, and said kind things.....as we tried to smooth out the wrinkles. The moral of the story is that the unkind words left wrinkles, and we should remember that we can't "take back" those unkind things.
